Meet our School Council members for the academic year 2024-2025.
Science Council have been using dog biscuits to explore vertebrates and recreate skeletons of various animals. It was good fun thinking about bone size and positioning using such a creative resource. Year 5 and 6 even studied x rays and tried some trickier vertebrates like frogs and lizards.
Meet our Science Council members for the academic year 2024-2025. Welcome Dexter, Naia, Sophia, Mia, Kane, Rubi, Harrison, Freya and Lily. We look forward to hearing your pupil voice ideas for Science and having some fun thinking about science concepts over the next year.

This week, in Year 5, in Science we worked scientifically and we made water filters in our topic: Mixtures and Separation. We cut the top off a water bottle and using an elastic band, attached a piece of gauze where the lid was to stop the materials falling out of the bottom as we constructed our filter. Then, we chose 5 materials to layer up in our filter. We could choose from sand, cotton wool, lentils, rice, pasta, dog biscuits and toy stuffing. We found that when the muddy water was poured through, the large bits got stuck in the big gaps and the tiny gaps in between the sand trapped the tiny pieces of dirt. The water that came out was much cleaner that before but not drinkable. We worked well in our groups and had some great scientific discussions!
We celebrated Roald Dahl Day on Friday 13th September. Staff and children were encouraged to wear yellow and pay £1 for the Dahlicious charity. As well as finding out about Roald dahl himself all lessons were linked to a book written by Roald Dahl. A competition was also carried out where children designed their own chocolate bar.
Congratulations to all the prize winners!
Congratulations to the 100% year group winners. They each won a £5 Asda vouchers and their parents/carers a £25 Asda voucher.

We have been learning to play the ukulele in Year 5 this year. To show off our amazing progress we held a ukulele concert for our parents and carers to attend. Our first was called my dog has fleas. This was the first song we learned to play and we used a strumming pattern with open strings. Our second song used the chord ‘C’ and demonstrated musical dynamics. In music the letter F means ‘LOUDLY’ and the letter P means ‘play quietly’. The following song was ‘Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and we used chords C, F and G. Alfie Back demonstrated the chorus in 5LR and Kaiden, Cameron and Amelia Q and Amelia H sang in 5AE. We then did ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra. In this song we used plectrums and a strumming pattern called the island strum. The Wellerman song was one of our favourites and we followed that with our final song which was ‘Country Road’ by John Denver. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, both the musicians and the audience.
