We made picnic items out of Modroc, card and paper and then painted them to look realistic. When they were dry, we arranged them on picnic blankets in the hall and selected a viewpoint from which to draw certain items. We used a range of sketching pencils to create an accurate shape and shading. After we shaded some different items, we then created an individual piece of art using our ideas. We decided how to add colour using either watercolour paints, watercolour pencils, colouring pencils or chalk pastels.
Choir children had a great time participating in The Big Sing at the Glasshouse in Gateshead. We sang lots of songs with a live band and had lots of fun.
25 Year 5 children went to a Tag Rugby Festival at Monkton Academy on Wednesday 26th June. We took part in several matches and enjoyed participating against other schools. The weather was beautiful and the children represented the school excellently.
The children enjoyed a session with Mr O during the day.
The whole school enjoyed a fabulous assembly led by Mr. O, the drumming teacher. He talked about the drums he had brought with him and explained where they came from. He taught everyone to chant a rhythm, stamping their feet to certain beats. Some lucky children were also chosen to play the drums, while everyone else counted the rhythm. We all had a great time.
Science Council met as normal this Monday but with an extra special treat as we had Katie from Science Buddies visiting. She is so impressed by our Science Council that she brought in some of her amazing animals to show us – we loved meeting Einstein, the African giant snail and even made some sweet smelling bath bombs too. Thank you Katie!
A great time was had by all!
To kick off National sports Week we enjoyed a visit from 3Sixty Bike stunt team. The children had a great time watching them perform their stunt show.
Year 5 took part in a football tournament at Boldon School. We took 3 teams and took part in 3 leagues. The children tried really hard. Although we did not top the leagues, we had lots of fun!
In Art, Year 5 have been learning about installation art. We explored everyday objects to create an installation, considered how ordinary spaces can be transformed and we tried alternative solutions as we constructed our 3D artwork. We thought carefully as we created our masterpieces and thought about how we were able to adapt everyday objects and make them interesting for the viewer. We had to make lots of changes and try new ideas when something didn’t work first time. We did this by moving objects around within the space to find the best way to display it. We were really impressed with our installation art pieces and we had fun giving them names which included ‘The angel of knowledge’ and ‘The Perfect Playtime’.
