For ‘Children in Need,’ pupils came to school in non-uniform and donated £1 for this worthy cause. They enjoyed completing various activities.
Great news, we’ve done it again!
Biddick Hall Juniors has topped the Autumn 2024 WOW Top Ten leaderboard for South Tyneside Congratulations and well done to you all pupils who logged their trips to school on Travel Tracker, and everyone who travelled actively to school, during October. They have all contributed to Biddick Hall Junior School reaching the top of the local leaderboard. We also finished in 45th place on the national leaderboard for England – 30 places higher than last term! That’s out of more than 650 schools – what an amazing achievement!!
As part of this session we discussed healthy and unhealthy friendships, how friendships can change and how easy it is to became part of a group where power is not equal. We talked about how it is often difficult to pull away from a friendship or situation and say no. We discussed about how to identify if something is not right and how often we just get a feeling and that we should trust our gut instincts. We found out that it is against the law to carry a weapon of any kind (knives, pepper spray etc.) even if your intention is not to use it. Being with a group that is committing a crime makes us accountable – it is called ‘joint enterprise’ and comes with will result in you having a criminal record. The man also told us that if we have a knife we are much more likely to become hurt than if we did not as the person attacking us can use it against us or react in a more threatening manner because they assume we were planning to attack them. He told us how important it is to know who our trusted adult is and to always tell them if we feel or are involved in anything that we don’t think is right.
To celebrate Comic Relief, we came into school in non-uniform and paid £1. Some people had t-shirts, some people had red noses and others had red accessories and throughout the day the children got to design their own red nose! In assembly, the teachers all told one of their favourite jokes and we all enjoyed hearing them. Which is your favourite?
We have recently passed the following sections in our journey to be awarded the Rainbow Flag: Student Voice, Pastoral Support and Inclusive Curriculum sections
This now means that we have completed the process and can proudly say that we are a Rainbow Flag Award holder! A very big well done to Mrs Rennie, the children and staff and you – our Biddick Hall Junior School community.
Many congratulations, we have been thrilled to have been on this journey with you.
For Children in Need, the school council created a school competition to design a new eye patch for Pudsey. They collected the entries and judged them very carefully in our most recent meeting. After the winners from each class were selected, the school council chose a book for that child as a prize. The council members presented the winners with their prizes in our celebration assembly on Friday morning.
5LR enjoyed completing a range of tasks during Children’s Mental Health Week at home as well as in school – well done everyone!
As part of Children’s Mental Health week, we expressed ourselves in a variety of ways. We thought about how ‘amazing’ we all are and, after completing some sentences, we decorated the word. After reading the story of ‘Beautiful Oops’, we discussed how mistakes are a good thing as they help us learn. We changed an ‘oops’ into something beautiful. We also thought about how emotions could be represented on masks and faces. We had a great week exploring how to express ourselves!
As part of our work in Children’s Mental Health week, we thought about doodling ‘Zen patterns’ and how this form of expression could help us with our emotions. We found it really relaxing, listening to some classical music whilst doodling.
When we had finished our doodles, we chose two of them which we liked the best and used printing ink and polystyrene tiles to print an alternating pattern. It was great fun and we were really proud of our work!
