As always they bring enthusiasm to club and lots of smiles.

Autumn Floor Textiles: Y5/6 Art Club

6th November 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

This week, our art club began with some fun warm-up drawing exercises. Children enjoyed drawing with continuous line; looking at the subject only and not the paper; drawing with their non-dominant hand; and drawing in specks and shadows.

We then moved on to creating our Autumn Textile design. Children began by arranging their leaf compositions, ensuring the leaves were placed face down with the veins facing away from the fabric. They then used a wax resist technique by rubbing the shapes of leaves through the fabric with a wax crayon and then applied fabric paint to the rubbings. Our results are fantastic!

African drumming at Biddick Hall Junior School!

4th November 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

In multi-cultural, week we were so lucky to find out more about African drumming when Fanuel, from Zimbabwe, came to visit us. We found out that African drums are called djembe drums and are made out of wood and goat skin. We learned that in Africa, there are many rhythms played on the drums for all different occasions and some children tried to play some of these rhythms. Fanuel also taught us some African songs and dances. We all had a fantastic time!

Staying Safe Week

2nd November 2022a hayward

Staying Safe Week

14th November to 18th November

This week is all about knowing how to stay safe in our homes, when we are out in the community, when we are online and when we are in school.  It is also Anti-Bullying Week, and the theme this year is ‘Reach Out’. The children will be consolidating what bullying is and what they already know about it. They will be exploring different situations they may find themselves in and what the different actions and consequences could be. The focus will be on ‘reaching out’ and telling a trusted adult  if the children experience or see any bullying behaviour.  The children will also explore online safety and cyberbullying culminating with ‘Friendship Friday’ where the focus will be on what a good friend is and how to sustain good friendships.
For further information, see the attached documents for parents and carers and for children and visit https://anti-bullyingalliance.org.uk/anti-bullying-week

Mental Health Support Group

20th October 2022a hayward

As our children navigate their way through life’s challenges, it can sometimes leave them feeling angry and they may not understand why.  If this sounds like something you experience with your child then please join us on our next Mental Health Peer Network on the 3rd November from 4pm where a representative from the Healthy Minds Team will be delivering a session on how to support your child to understand their anger/feelings and how to work through them.

Please note your child does not require a mental health diagnosis to attend the session.  The link to join the session is here: Click here to join the meeting

Multi-cultural week in Year 5!

20th October 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

In Year 5, in Multi-cultural week, we have been learning about the continent of Oceania with a focus on Australia.  We have found out facts about Australia and its location in the world – did you know it is the world’s 6th biggest country? We created some amazing aboriginal inspired art work using cotton buds to create dots and we have researched different landmarks that can be found in Australia.  We worked collaboratively and created these amazing posters.  We presented what we found to the rest of the class which we really enjoyed.
