TT Rockstars of the half term!

2nd March 2023S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

These are our TT Rockstars of the ½ term!  The child from each class who has made the most progress in their ‘Gig’ score (a set of 100 multiplication questions) from September until now were awarded a special certificate in our Friday morning Achievement Assembly. Some children achieved a perfect score of 100/100 on their latest gig and they received a special golden award. Knowing your multiplication tables is so important as it helps you to be fluent and efficient when working mathematically. I wonder who will be the winners of next half term!

Year 5 music composition!

2nd March 2023S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

In music this week, we created collaborative compositions to accompany a rap about the Sun.  Our focus was dynamics and we thought carefully about which parts of the composition to make loud and which to make quiet. We enjoyed performing our short compositions to each other.

The Healthy Minds Team!

10th February 2023S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Marie Holmes from the Healthy Minds team came into school on Wednesday 8th February and did a session with every class. She talked to us about the fact that everyone has a mental health and we all have red thoughts such as anxious, scared, worried or angry thoughts which are negative and green thoughts such as confident, happy or calm thoughts which are positive.  We have to learn to deal with our red thoughts in healthy ways.  One of these ways is to connect with others and talk about our red thoughts.

Studying the artist Joan Miro in year 5 as part of creative week.

17th January 2023S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

In Year 5, we have been looking at the artist Miró. Joan Miró was a Spanish Catalan artist, born in Barcelona in 1893. In 1922, Joan Miró began exploring surrealism in his paintings. He began painting in a more abstract style. This meant that the things he painted were less realistic, and might not look exactly like they do in real life. He started using strong colours, such as black, red, yellow, green and blue and painted shapes and lines in his artworks. We studied some of his works including Catalan Landscape (The Hunter), 1923-24, Pastorale, 1923-24 and Harlequin’s Carnival, 1924-25. He often included similar things in his paintings such as ears, stars, numbers, letters, trees, flags, ladders, eyes and triangles. We focused on the shapes and colours that he used and then created our own Miró inspired collages. We loved making them look unusual and enjoyed experimenting with making them 3D and we were really pleased with our end products.
