On Monday year 6 took part in an orienteering event at Marine park. Two teams of 8 children went. We had to use a map to find markers at various points around the park and write down a letter. Finally, we took part in a challenge where we had to match countries to their flags, both teams got them all correct and therefore had 24 seconds taken off their time. Team A came 3rd out of 20 teams and received medals.
Today, a group of 36 children from year 4 attended a rugby festival at Boldon school. We competed against West Boldon and Forest View. Unfortunately, we didn’t win, but we all tried very hard and we all really enjoyed ourselves.
The cucumber plant challenge continues and after assembly updates for best growing plants, we have now moved onto the observation of our cucumbers in bloom. Look at these whoppers that 6GA have grown. We are so pleased with the size of the cucumbers and will taste them soon.
Over the past few weeks in DT we have been researching Bolognese recipes and we created a healthy recipe. On Friday 17th May, we got the chance to make it! We prepared onions, garlic, carrots, celery, courgette, peppers and mushrooms using the bridge grip to protect our fingers. We sautéed the vegetables in vegetable oil and then added some seasoning, passata and chopped tomatoes. We simmered the mix and then blended it to a smooth sauce before adding beef mince that we had gently fried (for those who wanted vegetarian, they just had the sauce). We mixed the bolognese into penne pasta and added some parmesan and mixed herbs to our own portions to taste. We absolutely loved it!
In our session with Katie from Science Buddies, we made predictions and investigated how shadows can be changed. First, we investigated whether we could make shadows smaller or larger then we investigated whether we could change the shape and colour of a shadow.
We found that a shadow can be made smaller when the object is further away from the light source and the shadow is larger when it is closer to the light source.
We found that the shape and colour of the shadow could not be changed.
To celebrate Comic Relief, we came into school in non-uniform and paid £1. Some people had t-shirts, some people had red noses and others had red accessories and throughout the day the children got to design their own red nose! In assembly, the teachers all told one of their favourite jokes and we all enjoyed hearing them. Which is your favourite?
Well done to these 4 children who won a £5 Asda voucher for 100% attendance Spring 1st Half term.
