On Friday 7th February a Year 5 basketball team played a semi-final and a final at The Newcastle Eagles Arena. In the semi final we played Forest View and won. However during an exciting final in front the crowds we lost to St. Bede’s by one basket. We all had a great night and were a credit to the school. Well done!
Year 3 had a great afternoon at a Multiskills event at Temple Park.
We took part in lots of different game activities including a treasure hunt, skittles, throwing and catching as well as practicing our jumping skills.
On Thursday 16th January, 2 teams from Year 5 went to Temple Park to play in the Hoops for Health basketball tournament.
Team 1 won four out of their five games. The first game was 16 – 0, the second was 8 – 0, the third 3 – 1, match four 10 -0 and the final match we lost 3 – 1.
Team 2 won 3, lost one and drew one. The first game was 5 – 0, the second was 2 – 1 to the other team, the third 4 – 0, match four 2 – 2 and the final match we won 4 – 1.
Both teams got through to the quarter finals for coming second in our groups. Unfortunately, we had to play each other in this match and Team 1 won 2 – 1. This means that Team 1 have made it through to the Grand Finals which will be played at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena on Friday the 7th February. We will play in the semi-finals before the Eagles match and then if we get through to the final, that will be played at half time in the Eagles match.
We had a great day and everyone played extremely well and showed good sportsmanship.
Yesterday, the girl’s football team played in their first tournament of the season at Boldon School.
We played three matches: the first match was against St Aloysius where we drew 1-1; we played Hedworth Lane in our second match and lost 1-0 and in our final match against Fellgate, we won 4-0.
We saw some spectacular goals from Hannah and Ellie but the whole team played extremely well. It has been a good start to the tournament, our skills continue to improve and we’re excited for our next match.
Year 5 are lucky enough to be working alongside a rugby coach from All Stars Rugby in order to prepare us for our upcoming Tag Rugby tournament. Our lessons this week were moved indoors due to the weather but we still managed to impress with our excellent passing and tagging skills.
We had a fantastic time during our sports day afternoons!
We took part in our annual Sports for Schools Sponsor. This is a fantastic initiative which allows us to invite athletes into schools and in doing so raise money for school sport equipment. This year, we were delighted to welcome Stuart Robinson, an Invictus Games Athlete, to Biddick Hall Junior School. We had great fun completing the exercise circuit and we were delighted to listen to Stuart explain to us his sport, Wheelchair Rugby. It was a fantastic afternoon and the children went away feeling very inspired.
Year 6 took part in a cheerleading festival. In the morning we learned a cheerleading routine and then after lunch we performed our dance along with other schools, although we did not win we had great fun and really enjoyed the day.
As part of ‘Healthy Lifestyles Week,’ Year 5 took part in a range of fitness targets.
As part of ‘Healthy Lifestyles Week,’ pupils enjoyed learning some new circus skills. They had great fun doing so!
