We celebrated Roald Dahl Day on Friday 13th September.

16th September 2024S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

We celebrated Roald Dahl Day on Friday 13th September.  Staff and children were encouraged to wear yellow and pay £1 for the Dahlicious charity.  As well as finding out about Roald dahl himself all lessons were linked to a book written by Roald Dahl.  A competition was also carried out where children designed their own chocolate bar.

Year 4 enjoyed a visit from Katie, from Science Buddies

16th September 2024S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 4 enjoyed a visit from Katie, from Science Buddies. We investigated the human digestive system by cutting and mashing food and watching it travel through the different parts of the system including the esophagus, stomach and intestines. It was great fun and helped us to understand this process.

Year 5 and 6 took part in a knife crime workshop.

16th July 2024S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

As part of this session we discussed healthy and unhealthy friendships, how friendships can change and how easy it is to became part of a group where power is not equal.  We talked about how it is often difficult to pull away from a friendship or situation and say no.  We discussed about how to identify if something is not right and how often we just get a feeling and that we should trust our gut instincts.  We found out that it is against the law to carry a weapon of any kind (knives, pepper spray etc.) even if your intention is not to use it.  Being with a group that is committing a crime makes us accountable – it is called ‘joint enterprise’ and comes with will result in you having a criminal record. The man also told us that if we have a knife we are much more likely to become hurt than if we did not as the person attacking us can use it against us or react in a more threatening manner because they assume we were planning to attack them.  He told us how important it is to know who our trusted adult is and to always tell them if we feel or are involved in anything that we don’t think is right.

Learning to play the ukulele in Year 5 this year.

11th July 2024S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

We have been learning to play the ukulele in Year 5 this year.  To show off our amazing progress we held a ukulele concert for our parents and carers to attend.  Our first was called my dog has fleas. This was the first song we learned to play and we used a strumming pattern with open strings. Our second song used the chord ‘C’ and demonstrated musical dynamics. In music the letter F means ‘LOUDLY’ and the letter P means ‘play quietly’. The following song was ‘Three Little Birds by Bob Marley and we used chords C, F and G. Alfie Back demonstrated the chorus in 5LR and Kaiden, Cameron and Amelia Q and Amelia H sang in 5AE. We then did ‘Shotgun’ by George Ezra. In this song we used plectrums and a strumming pattern called the island strum. The Wellerman song was one of our favourites and we followed that with our final song which was ‘Country Road’ by John Denver. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, both the musicians and the audience.
