‘That History Bloke,’ in Year 6.

18th January 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

That History Bloke’ visited Year 6 and told us lots about World War 2. We were able to look at many artefacts and find out about what they were and what they were used for.  He also let us hear the sound of a real air raid siren from World War 2 – it was very loud!  We learned how to identify various German and British bomber and fighter planes from their silhouette, which was something children used to do during that time so they could warn people if enemy planes were coming.  We had great fun!

Year 6 visit The Word.

3rd December 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 6 visited The Word to take part in a computing workshop.  All of the children had great fun, learning many new skills.  During the session at the students:

  • Designed, wrote and debugged programs that accomplished specific goals using a variety of software.
  • They solved problems by decomposing them into smaller parts
  • Used sequence, selection, and repetition in programs e.g repeat loops and nested loops
  • Used logical reasoning to explain how some simple algorithms work and to detect and correct errors in algorithms and programs

The pupils were a credit to the school and worked fantastically in groups to solve the problems given.

Heart dissection in Year 6!

22nd October 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

As part of our ‘Staying Alive’ topic, Y6 have had the opportunity to have a scientist visit our school and learn more about the heart with a hands on workshop where we got to dissect a heart. It was a lamb heart and like a human heart we saw chambers, vessels that would lead to and from it and thought about how oxygenated and deoxygenated blood travelled to and away from the heart. We felt the weight of it, discussed the colour and size. We learned about what it was made up of and thought about its texture and what contributed to making a heart fatty as well as what lifestyle choices can help a human to have a less fatty heart and be healthier. It was incredible to hold an actual heart! This was an unforgettable science lesson!

‘That History Bloke,’ in Year 6

22nd October 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

During our sessions we had great fun finding out facts about life during the Ancient Greek times and how this period of history has links with current day life in the UK. We participated in a Greek voting game using black and white pebbles like they did all those years ago, shared some artefacts such as: round shields, helmets, spears, swords, theatre masks, plates, sandals and armour. We played a game called 5 lines which was fun and also had a go at using a stylus and ink to write our names in Ancient Greek. ‘That History Bloke’ was a brilliant visitor and we had a super time.

Roald Dahl Day!

30th September 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

We celebrated Roald Dahl Day on the 13th September (Roald Dahl’s birthday).  Many of us wore yellow as this is his favourite colour. Each class spent the day completing sessions linked to Roald Dahl.

We each donated £1 which will be given to the Roald Dahl charity, which provides specialist nurses and support for seriously ill children. Today, there are currently 82 Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses caring for over 21,000 seriously ill children across the UK.
