We celebrated Harvest Festival on Friday 21st October in our school hall. Lots of parents and carers came to support their children. All of the food donations were sent to a local food bank. thank you for your continued support.
This week, our art club began with some fun warm-up drawing exercises. Children enjoyed drawing with continuous line; looking at the subject only and not the paper; drawing with their non-dominant hand; and drawing in specks and shadows.
We then moved on to creating our Autumn Textile design. Children began by arranging their leaf compositions, ensuring the leaves were placed face down with the veins facing away from the fabric. They then used a wax resist technique by rubbing the shapes of leaves through the fabric with a wax crayon and then applied fabric paint to the rubbings. Our results are fantastic!
In multi-cultural, week we were so lucky to find out more about African drumming when Fanuel, from Zimbabwe, came to visit us. We found out that African drums are called djembe drums and are made out of wood and goat skin. We learned that in Africa, there are many rhythms played on the drums for all different occasions and some children tried to play some of these rhythms. Fanuel also taught us some African songs and dances. We all had a fantastic time!
Year 5 had a fantastic time working with clay to sculpt their Viking Warrior Heads. We used lots of different tools to create facial features and different textures in the clay. We love the results!
Staying Safe Week
14th November to 18th November
In Year 5, in Multi-cultural week, we have been learning about the continent of Oceania with a focus on Australia. We have found out facts about Australia and its location in the world – did you know it is the world’s 6th biggest country? We created some amazing aboriginal inspired art work using cotton buds to create dots and we have researched different landmarks that can be found in Australia. We worked collaboratively and created these amazing posters. We presented what we found to the rest of the class which we really enjoyed.
Year 5 and Year 6 children enjoyed a visit from the Newcastle Eagles as part of the Hoops4 Health Roadshow.
Our new Science Council members have been voted in and what a wonderful group of pupils they are already proving to be. They have all been introduced to each other and now have their own very important ‘Science Council representative lanyards to wear to club each Thursday and when doing important jobs, helping to give students at Biddick hall Juniors a voice for science in the school.
We celebrated Roald Dahl day on his birthday (13th September). His favourite colour was yellow so we all tried to wear something yellow. During the day we discussed some of his books and completed activities linked to these. We held a competition linked to ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ which involved us designing our own unique sweet/chocolate bar.
