Year 6 carried out a geographical enquiry within the local area. Each class agreed a focus for their enquiry and the best methods of data collection.
6SC looked at the impact of disused buildings within the estate, and consulted with local residents to find out what they would like to happen to the sites – and which services they would like to be able to access from any new community buildings. We found out views through the use of likert scales and interviewing local people. We also took photographs and made observations – using tally charts to collect our data.
As a class we discussed many issues in our local area, including pollution and new building projects. We discussed the changes we could make hypothetically and chose traffic congestion around the school at pick up and drop off times to investigate further as if we were a council member. As part of this we went out to carry out some fieldwork. We counted the possible number of car park spaces around the school.
