In Year 5, our DT topic for the first summer half term was to research and make a healthy Bolognese.  We found out about the ingredients, from farm to fork and then we looked at how we could alter a traditional recipe to make it healthier.  We prepared and added lots of vegetables including onions, peppers, courgettes, carrots, celery and mushrooms into the sauce and mixed it with tomato puree, garlic, chopped tomatoes and passata. Once it had cooked down, we blended it with a hand blender to make the sauce nice and smooth.  After pan frying some lean minced beef, we added the sauce and let it simmer for ½ hour.  We then boiled some penne pasta and mixed it all together.  The final addition was a sprinkling of parmesan (for those who wanted it) before the big taste test.  The Everyone loved it and even came back for seconds!
