Careers and Enterprise week!

29th June 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

The whole school enjoyed a week on discussing careers and what they wanted to be when they grew up. They were given a sum of money per class and asked to think about what they could make and sell as a class to try and make the most profit. The children learnt a lot of new skills and then sold their goods. 5LR made the most profit! Well done!

Music in Year 5!

29th June 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

In Music this half term, our unit is called Life Cycles and it fits beautifully with our Science topic of Growing Up and Growing Old. We started off thinking about babies and lullabies and then this week we are thinking about school.  We learned a great song called ‘Squelch’ linked to the things that children leave in their school bags! Then, we created a musical timetable for 3 of our favourite lessons.  We selected instruments and explored timbre, tempo, dynamics and texture to create range of sounds that we though suited each subject.  We then put those sounds together and performed our compositions to the class.

Segedunum Roman Fort!

19th May 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 3 had a great day at Segedunum Roman Fort. We trained to be Roman soldiers complete with shields and spears.  We marched in formation and got ready for battle.

We visited the site of the original Hadrian’s wall and completed a mock invasion from the wall using soft balls. This was very exciting.

We had a tour of the remains of the fort and learned all about the buildings and people.

As part of our Science Topic, children in Year 5 have been using their knowledge of properties of materials to separate two materials which had been mixed together. We explored how the processes of Filtration, Evaporation, Sieving and Magnetic Attraction could be used to separate a mixture of solids, liquids and gases.

Year 5 enjoyed exploring Viking Artefacts!

3rd December 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

In Year 5 we are studying the Vikings.  Vikings were people who came from Norway, Sweden and Denmark, collectively known as Scandinavia.  We know lots about the Vikings including why they raided monasteries (Lindisfarne being the first) and what weapons they used.  We know about some of the Anglo-Saxon kings (Alfred the Great, Ethelred the Unready and Edward the Confessor) and what they tried to do to stop the brutal invasions, including the introduction of Danegeld which translates as ‘paying the Dane’ which was literally paying the Vikings to go away!

Today, we were lucky enough to become Historians and explore Viking Artefacts. We handled them carefully and asked questions such as: ‘What is it made from?’; ‘What could it be?’ and ‘Who might’ve used it?’.  After our explorations, we chose 2 objects and we completed a museum information card with our findings!

Sculpture in Year 5!

22nd October 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Children in Year 5 have enjoyed improving their sculpture skills by making a Viking Warrior’s head from clay. Using different clay tools and slip glue, the children thought about how they could create texture using the clay – we’re really pleased with the results!
