Meet our Science Council members for the academic year 2024-2025. Welcome Dexter, Naia, Sophia, Mia, Kane, Rubi, Harrison, Freya and Lily. We look forward to hearing your pupil voice ideas for Science and having some fun thinking about science concepts over the next year.
The Science Council school challenge continued right up until the end of half term. Here are some of the cucumbers Class 6GA grew; we gave them to the school kitchen to be served with the salad for lunch in the last week of term.
Science Council met as normal this Monday but with an extra special treat as we had Katie from Science Buddies visiting. She is so impressed by our Science Council that she brought in some of her amazing animals to show us – we loved meeting Einstein, the African giant snail and even made some sweet smelling bath bombs too. Thank you Katie!
The cucumber plant challenge continues and after assembly updates for best growing plants, we have now moved onto the observation of our cucumbers in bloom. Look at these whoppers that 6GA have grown. We are so pleased with the size of the cucumbers and will taste them soon.
Science Council have spent some of their club session time thinking about visitors for Science Week. They voted for Katie from Science Buddies to come to school and complete some fun working scientifically tasks with each year group. We are really looking forward to this.
Alongside organizing a visiting scientist and the litter picking, some of Science Council also researched and made questions for a quiz which will be disseminated next week to each class for some quizzing science trivia fun. We are looking forward to celebrating Science week with some ‘time’ related tasks and a competition too.
School and Science Council have been teaming up to help create an improved and cleaner environment around out school. Using litter pickers and black bags so far years 5 and 6 have joined forces to collect discarded litter. We were certainly surprised by how much litter was caught in bushes and hedges and found all sorts ranging from crisp packets, to cigarette boxes, plastic bags to pop cans. Next week years 3 and 4 will help the anti-litter campaign around the school premises.
Science Council have had great fun this half term making pop
and Mentos geysers, spooky cauldron mixtures, Halloween
lights from milk bottles and experimenting with pencils being
pierced through zip lock bags of water. It has been a fun half
term that’s for sure.
