Free training for parents and carers of children with SEND

22nd February 2021a hayward

South Tyneside Council & South Tyneside CCG are pleased to announce a new range of training for parents and carers of children and young people with SEND.

Based on what parents have told us, we have pulled together a training programme covering a range of topics including SEND Law, Makaton, Challenging Behaviour and much more. The training programme will run for the next 12 months with lots of opportunities for parents to choose the training that’s of most interest to them. All courses are free to join.

We are now taking bookings for the first event: a series of training on SEND Law. These sessions will be delivered by Claire Jackson of SENETA (Special Educational Needs Expert Training & Advocacy). Click the link below to find out more about the sessions and book your space.

Safer Internet Day 2021

9th February 2021a hayward

Today Year 6 are taking part in an online quiz organised by ICT in Schools, South Tyneside. They will be pitting their wits against other schools in South Tyneside to see who knows more about keeping safe online. This year the theme for the day is about reliability, can we trust everything we see in the online world? Their skills will be tested to see if they can spot fake news stories and photographs.

If you would like to know more about Safer Internet Day, go to their website https://www.saferinternet.org.uk/safer-internet-day/2021 And for more information about keeping your family safe online, check out these videos made by the ICT in Schools team.

Here is some advice from leading e safety experts on how to support your family.

Mental Health Week

28th January 2021a hayward

Next week we are going to be taking part in Children’s Mental Health Week, organised by Place2Be.  The theme of the week is ‘EXPRESS YOURSELF.’ We are going to achieve this through finding creative ways to share feelings, thoughts or ideas, through things like art, writing, music , dance and doing things that make you feel good.

We will be doing loads of activities at school and those working remotely at home will be asked to join in.  Keep checking your Google Classroom to see what is going on in your class.

Youth Sport Trust Online Club

17th November 2020a hayward
The Youth Sport Trust have launched a brand-new initiative. Until the 18th December, they are running a free 30-minute online club which is available for all children and young people to participate in some sport, develop skills and of course have fun!
The club will be held every day from 5pm and is accessed through a live video on their Youtube channel. The club will be led by Athlete Mentors with different backgrounds, abilities and from different sports.
Each session will have a specific theme based on the day which will be…
Adventure Monday – this might involve getting children to do floor, wall climbing and map reading all within their living room.
Tuesday Play – imaginative play utilising resources in the house to create games and activities to get active.
Wild Wednesday – some high tempo competitive activities involving personal challenges.
Thinking Thursday – introducing cognitive challenges for children through movement. Active noughts and crosses and introducing an element of competition – whether that be against themselves, the clock, their siblings or remotely with friends.
Fun Friday – a chance for children to let loose and have some fun. Dancing and doing what makes them feel good.
As you are aware, many children and young people are currently missing out on their usual sport clubs. This is a great opportunity for them to develop skills and learn something new.
