Year 5 had a fantastic time working with clay to sculpt their Viking Warrior Heads. We used lots of different tools to create different textures in the clay. Some of us wanted to experiment with mixed media and have woven materials like wool, hessian and foil into the clay to create different effects. We are so pleased with the results.
Children in Year 5 are loving their Maths lessons! In our Power Up today, children played a game which demonstrated their secure understanding of place value. They had to roll a dice and create a number larger than their partner’s, deciding where each digit should go. The maths talk was amazing and the children were able to justify their thinking using appropriate vocabulary.
In our Art lessons we have been printing with playdough. We used everyday objects to scrape patterns into playdough then we used acrylic paint to print. We were very happy with our finished pieces of work!
North East Counselling Services have funding to provide counselling free of charge to people who live in South Tyneside who’s mental health has been impacted by Corona Virus. Funding is limited but they can deliver support by Zoom or telephone.

In Year 4, we are learning about sounds in our Science lessons. We made these string telephones and as one person talked into their cup, the vibrations travelled down the string into the other person’s ear.
In Year 4’s Science lessons, we are learning about sounds. We looked at how sound vibrations could be demonstrated using some visible evidence: a drum skin with grains of rice, a plucked elastic band, the tip of a vibrating tuning folk placed in water and a ruler clamped to the table and taped at one end.

World Mental Health Day
The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year. This year’s theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is ‘mental health for all’.
World Mental Health Day 2020 is the most important one yet. The months of lockdown and loss have had a huge impact on us all, and prioritising mental health has never been more important than it is now.
