Heart dissecting in Year 6!

27th June 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Katie from Science Buddies worked with year 6 and we dissected lambs hearts. It was fascinating: we got to pull heart strings, feel the weight of a heart, see the actual shape, observe fatty deposits and see where the valves were. Heart dissecting was fun but there were a few of us who were a little queasier than others. In contrast, the hands on science really allowed some of us, as you can see in the photos, to have a good explore and perhaps there will be a few heart surgeons or butchers amongst us in the future…

Year 6took part in a djembe drumming workshop

18th June 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

On Tuesday 17th June, we were visited by a musician called Fanuel to help us celebrate World Music Day. We enjoyed singing songs and playing games.

Year 6 then took part in a djembe drumming workshop where they learned to play various rhythms using the drums. The session was very informative and Fanuel provided lots of information about how to hold, and play, the drum in different ways to achieve different sound effects. The Year 6 children played and sang along to some traditional rhythms from Zimbabwe. The session even ended with a fun-filled game – they all had a fantastic time!

Year 6 represented our school in a Rounders Festival at Boldon School.

18th June 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

As part of  ‘Sport’s Week’, two teams of Year 6 children represented our school in a Rounders Festival at Boldon School. We played brilliantly, remembering all of the advice given to us in our coaching sessions. One of our teams even won the competition, coming away with medals – what a fantastic afternoon!

Year 6 Road Safety

18th June 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 6 have been preparing themselves for their transition to year 7 with the company ‘Way 2 Go’. The staff were getting the year 6 children to think about and plan their route to their secondary school, looking at: bus routes and timetables; walking and cycle tracks; and being prepared with charged phones; knowledge of appropriate apps, having enough data before leaving the house and saving ICE contacts within phones. The pupils were also made aware of ‘Dr Bike’ who can fix your bike for free (during designated sessions) and ‘Popcards’ for discounted travel.

Year 6 children found the session very useful, they feel more at ease and ready for their new chapter of their life in September.

Year 6 Hoops for Health tournament

5th June 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

On Tuesday 3rd June, a group of children from year 6 went to play basketball at the Vertu Motors Arena, home of the Newcastle Eagles.

We had a great day, winning 4 of our games, drawing 1 and losing just 2. The team played extremely well together and showed an excellent attitude towards sport during the day. We narrowly missed out on getting through to the next stage but definitely enjoyed our visit.

Year 6 were invited to take part in an Easter Labyrinth at West Harton Methodist church.

7th April 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

as part of our RE unit for this Spring term, ‘How and why is Easter celebrated by Christians?’

We were split into groups and we then visited different parts of a church hall which had been mapped out to tell us parts of the Easter story Christian’s believe.  We found out about significant points of Jesus’ life leading up to his crucifixion. It was informative and allowed us to be reflective and ask questions linked to Christian beliefs. The church volunteers were extremely welcoming and even enabled us to plant our own sunflower seeds which they said was to represent new starts.

Making playground structures in Year 6 as part of out DT.

7th April 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

As part of our Design Technology unit of work, we have been designing and making playground structures. We began by sketching out each of the pieces of equipment and then decided how we could make them using the available materials. We developed a range of skills including measuring with accuracy and marking-out. Working in small groups, we used a variety of tools including saws, drills and glue-guns. It was important that each structure was sturdy, so we reinforced the corners to assist with this. Finally, we added cladding and other landscape features to ensure that our designs were aesthetically pleasing.
