On Wednesday 24th January, 20 children attended a multisports festival at Temple Park. We completed many activities including basketball, target throw, relay races, football skills and lots more. We had a great time and were very well behaved.
On Thursday 11th January, we were visited by Will from a group called Rocksteady. He taught us about the various musical instruments such as an electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and drumkit that make up a band and we listened carefully to the different sounds they made. We enjoyed singing and dancing to various songs that Will sang and played.
Year 3 children visited Boldon School to take part in a tennis festival. We enjoyed completing lots of different tasks and learned some good, new skills.
We celebrated European Day of Languages. We talked about the value of learning different languages and about the variety of languages spoken across Europe. We even tried saying hello in lots of different languages.
As part of the day, we held a competition to design a ‘t-shirt’ to promote the occasion. We had such fabulous entries from across the school, but here are the winners – I think you’ll agree that they are pretty wonderful!
On Friday 17th November Year 3 visited the Hindu temple in Newcastle. The children enjoyed hearing about how Hindus worship when they visit the temple. We joined in with Hindu songs and some children chose to dress up in traditional costumes. It was interesting to see the shrine and the puja tray that we had learned about in school.
We all enjoyed our Halloween Disco!
We held our annual Harvest Festival in he school hall. Father Mervyn from All Saints Church came to open and close it. Lots of tins, packets and jars were kindly donated by the parents. These were then given to a local food bank.
Year 3 took part in a Diwali workshop. We learned all about the important gods and goddesses of the Hindu religion. Some of the children took part in a re-enactment of the story of Rama and Sita and enjoyed getting dressed up. We found out all about the festival of Diwali and had the chance to have our face painted and our hand stamped with a Rangoli pattern, just like Hindus do during the festival.
Science Council have had great fun this half term making pop and Mentos geysers, spooky cauldron mixtures, Halloween lights from milk bottles and experimenting with pencils being pierced through zip lock bags of water. It has been a fun half term that’s for sure.
We celebrated Roald Dahl Day on Wednesday 13th September. Staff and children were encouraged to wear yellow (because this was Roald Dahl’s favourite colour) and pay £1 for the Dahlicious charity. As well as finding out about Roald Dahl and his charity some of our lessons were linked to a Roald Dahl book.
One of the lessons was a competition. We read extracts from the BFG and then linked with this the children drew something in a jar, like the ones the BFG had, that they would like to see in a dream. We had great fun!
