Year 3’s Design and Technology Project this term was to make pizza, linked to our Italy topic. We used our research from Roma Restaurant to design and make a tasty Italian pizza from scratch. The children used lots of skills such as measuring, mixing, kneading and rolling. The smell in our classroom was amazing and we enjoyed eating and evaluating our pizzas later in the day.
In Year 3, the children are currently studying Italy as part of their Geography topic. We have been learning about different aspects of the Italian culture and food plays an important part. As children will be making their own pizzas for their technology project, we decided to take a trip to an Italian restaurant to allow children to taste a range of traditional Italian dishes. The teachers were very impressed with everyone’s willingness to try new foods. We had a lovely time!
As part of Creative Week, Year 3 children had the opportunity to visit the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle to take part in a Thomas Bewick inspired Printing Workshop. The children had great fun creating their impressive prints and enjoyed their activity trail around the gallery.

This term, Year 3 have been studying Hinduism in RE and had the amazing opportunity to take part in a Hindu workshop where we learned about Diwali, the Festival of Light. Some of us even got the chance to dress up in fantastic costumes to act out the story of Rama and Sita. A fantastic time had by all!

Year 3 Kreative Kitchen
As part of our Healthy Lifestyles Week, children were treated to a Kreative Kitchen workshop where they were able to prepare and eat foods from the Mediterranean. Children in Year 3 had a fantastic time and tried foods they had not tasted before – as you can see from some of the expressions, the olives didn’t go down too well!
Year 3 Tag Rugby Tournament
The bad weather may have cancelled the Year 3 Rugby Festival at Whitburn School but it did not stop us holding our own Rugby Tournament at Biddick Hall Junior School. The children in Year 3 were split into six teams of nine and played against each other in a number of matches, giving them the opportunity to show off the skills learned during their coaching sessions. They battled against the rain and Team 2 were declared the overall winners.
