World Book Day 2020!

16th March 2020S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

On Thursday 5th March we celebrated World Book Day.  This year’s theme was ‘Share a Million Stories’.  We began the day by discussing the importance and benefits of sharing a story and who we could share a story with.   The rest of the day was spent completing book related activities and completing a school competition.  As part of the day we either wore our pyjamas or dressed up as a book character, we were very impressed with the children’s efforts and enthusiasm.

As part of ‘Creative Week,’ Ian from Doodle Bug came to Biddick Hall Junior School to work on ‘Growth Mindset.’ He taught everyone how to draw and many of us surprised ourselves with our end results. He taught us to be resilient, patient and to persevere even when we find things tricky. Always believe in the power of YET! I can’t do it YET!

Crazy Typography in Year 3!

5th February 2020S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 3 are loving Creative Week! Today Year 3 were introduced to the concept of font design. We explored how font type can change the way words are presented, and how we can take inspiration from many different sources to invent something new. Using a mixture of twigs, grasses, nuts, bolts and screws, the children have developed their observational drawing and mark-making skills to produce very effective font designs. We are really pleased with the results.

Year 3 visit Palace Green !

18th December 2019S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 3 had a wonderful visit to Palace Green in Durham to consolidate their knowledge about the Stoneage to Ironage period of history which they have been studying in class.

They took part in a museum trail on the different periods and enjoyed trying their hands at weaving.

They looked at, drew and described historical artefacts as well as designing and making their own coin.

Finally the children became osteo archeologists and investigated a historical skeleton. They pieced together clues to determine who the skeleton could have belonged to.
