Year 3 had a fantastic time learning more about the Ancient Egyptians with ‘That History Bloke’. We found out more about pharaohs and the clothes they wore. We then enjoyed learning about mumification and practised wrapping each other in bandages. We then wrote our names using hieroglyphics and played an Ancient Egyptian game.
On Wednesday 6th May, Year 5 were visited by Ben (Zeus) from Past Productions and we learned all about the Greeks! We found out about some of the differences between Athens and Sparta and how life for men and women was different. We learned about some Greek myths and then prepared and performed a play to tell the story which was great fun! We discovered that the Olympics were called the Athenian Games originally and then we took part in our own mini Olympic games! After lunch, we wrote persuasive letters in role as Greek characters linked to the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur. We then used all of the work that we had done to design and make our own Greek plate that showed a traditional Greek theme – the end results were fantastic! Finally, we ended the day with a quiz to show how much we had learned, which was loads!
In Year 5, our DT topic for the first summer half term was to research and make a healthy Bolognese. We found out about the ingredients, from farm to fork and then we looked at how we could alter a traditional recipe to make it healthier. We prepared and added lots of vegetables including onions, peppers, courgettes, carrots, celery and mushrooms into the sauce and mixed it with tomato puree, garlic, chopped tomatoes and passata. Once it had cooked down, we blended it with a hand blender to make the sauce nice and smooth. After pan frying some lean minced beef, we added the sauce and let it simmer for ½ hour. We then boiled some penne pasta and mixed it all together. The final addition was a sprinkling of parmesan (for those who wanted it) before the big taste test. The Everyone loved it and even came back for seconds!
Year 4 had a fabulous day finding out all about the ancient Maya.
We learned how to count to ten with actions in Mayan.
We carried out drama sketches about different parts of Mayan civilisation.
We looked at different artefacts.
We took part in a quiz to remember all the facts learned.
Year 3 children investigated shadows with Katie from Science Buddies. We created shadow puppets and investigated how to change the size of a shadow. We also found that we could not change the colour of a shadow.
As part of comic relief we encouraged the children to come to school with crazy hair!
During World Book Day pupils took part in a competition where they had to create a World Book Day voucher. They were given the challenge of creating a bold, eye-catching gift card design that celebrated their interests and showed how books can help you to explore ideas, spark imagination and go further through reading.
