Year 4  enjoyed a visit from Science Buddies

13th March 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

On Tuesday 11th March Year 4  enjoyed a visit from Science Buddies where we completed investigations linked to our Sound topic. We learned how sounds are made and how to change the volume of sounds by increasing the number of vibrations. We also used sound meters to measure how the level of sound changes when a stop watch is insulated. We tried a variety of materials and concluded that cotton wool is the best insulator.

Science Buddies in Year 6!

11th March 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Katie from science Buddies visited our school today and we took part in a workshop that linked mainly to our Geography topic – Energy but also to science.  She explained how some energy e.g. wind power is renewable.  Then she explained how wind turbines work and showed us some pictures of a wind farm that is local to us called Dogger Bank. Our Challenge was to design and create the blades for a model wind turbine that spun the best.  After experimenting with various shapes and sizes (using paper, scissors masking tape and straws) we found out that the angle the blade was positioned at was very important.  Most of us managed to create blades that turned, some of the faster than others.

Number Day!

11th February 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

On Number Day we came into school wearing a number and did LOADS of fun things linked to Maths!  Throughout the school, we did activities including solving a theft by solving logic puzzles; graffiti maths where we wrote down everything we knew about maths on large sheets of paper; investigating spirals and how to make different patterns by following an algorithm; playing maths games and puzzles with each other and we did some active maths where we danced around the room solving addition and subtraction problems as well as lots of other activities. We had such good fun and realised that there’s more to maths than just numbers!!
