25th November 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 5 and 6 were visited by a PC and a Community Support Officer to learn a bit more about knife crime.

We learned:

  • If you are with someone who is carrying a knife you can get into trouble as well – even if you aren’t carrying one.
  • It is illegal to buy a knife if you are under 18.
  • It is illegal to sell a knife to someone who is under 18.
  • You have to have a purpose for carrying a knife if you are over the age of 18.
  • If you carry a knife, you are more likely to be stabbed with it.
  • It is NOT cool to carry a knife.
  • It can change someone’s life – the victim and their family and friends, the perpetrator and their family and friends, the professionals who have to deal with the crime as well as any bystanders who might witness it.

4CL visited the Sunderland Wintergardens.

25th November 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

4CL visited the Sunderland Wintergardens. We investigated the layers of the rainforest thinking about animals and plants.

We walked around answering questions to follow a trail. This was followed by sketching and colouring the plants.

Afterwards we went into Mowbray Park and completed questionnaires with members of the public about how they use the park.

We all had a fantastic day.

Y5 were lucky enough to be visited by Richard (That History Bloke).

3rd November 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

On Tuesday 21st October, Y5 were lucky enough to be visited by Richard (That History Bloke). First, we listened to a Viking saga called ‘Ragnar Hairylegs’ and we noticed some similarities between that and the British legend of The Lambton Worm. Richard brought loads of Viking artefacts for us to explore and ask questions about – we couldn’t believe how clever the Vikings were and that they actually invented travel mugs made from horns! We held swords, shields, combs, necklaces, hair pins and brooches. After that, we had a go at writing our names in runes on wax tablets and to end, we played tretavel an actual Viking game of strategy! We loved our workshop and it definitely brought our Viking history topic to an exciting end.

Year 3 visit Palace Green Library in Durham .

3rd November 2025S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 3 enjoyed their visit to Palace Green Library in Durham on Thursday, which rounded off our topic on Prehistoric Britain. The children had the opportunity to get hands-on with some Iron Age artefacts considering their uses and who they might have belonged to. We also completed a Gallery trail, stepping back in time to find out more about the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Our day ended with a spectacular skeleton show, where we learned how our bones can tell us a lot about a person, such as their gender, age and even where they were born.

Erupting volcano fun in Science Council club.

Erupting volcano fun in Science Council club. Look at this fabulous task we did at club: we made play dough volcanos and then created our own chemical reaction to make it look like lava erupting – it was very cool!
