In Biddick Hall Junior School we think that the issue of bullying is an important one in which to educate our pupils. We invited The Take Away Theatre Company into school and they performed a production and workshop called ‘Hope’.
Hope was a drama specially commissioned by The Take Away Theatre Company. Both powerful and entertaining it told the story of three young people whose lives were affected by bullying.
The project explored Emotional and Social Health issues of relationships, decision-making and friendship by promoting good behaviour and respect for others.
The workshop after the performance was attended by the Y5 and Y6 pupils. The actors led a participatory workshop exploring the various issues that arose from the play. Pupils were encouraged to examine the actions of the characters and how they could have made better choices. The workshop consisted of various forum theatre activities which helped the children to identify different forms of bullying and how to combat it.
We thoroughly enjoyed the performance and the workshop and learned a lot from it.
