We were lucky enough to get a ‘Box of Delights’ from the Discovery Museum that was filled with artefacts from the Viking times in Britain. We explored the items and thought carefully about what they might be, what they might’ve been made from and who might have used them. The children were excellent with their justifications which backed up their ideas. After that, we thought about what it told us about the Vikings and if there was anything that we used today that was similar. We were amazed (and disgusted) when we found out that the Vikings would use an ear spoon to clean their ears! It looked a bit like a modern cotton bud and it told us that the Vikings liked to keep themselves clean and had pride in their appearance. We made some gorgeous museum style fact cards to record our ideas.
