22nd October 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Children in Year 5 have enjoyed improving their sculpture skills by making a Viking Warrior’s head from clay. Using different clay tools and slip glue, the children thought about how they could create texture using the clay – we’re really pleased with the results!

Heart dissection in Year 6!

22nd October 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

As part of our ‘Staying Alive’ topic, Y6 have had the opportunity to have a scientist visit our school and learn more about the heart with a hands on workshop where we got to dissect a heart. It was a lamb heart and like a human heart we saw chambers, vessels that would lead to and from it and thought about how oxygenated and deoxygenated blood travelled to and away from the heart. We felt the weight of it, discussed the colour and size. We learned about what it was made up of and thought about its texture and what contributed to making a heart fatty as well as what lifestyle choices can help a human to have a less fatty heart and be healthier. It was incredible to hold an actual heart! This was an unforgettable science lesson!

‘That History Bloke,’ in Year 6

22nd October 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

During our sessions we had great fun finding out facts about life during the Ancient Greek times and how this period of history has links with current day life in the UK. We participated in a Greek voting game using black and white pebbles like they did all those years ago, shared some artefacts such as: round shields, helmets, spears, swords, theatre masks, plates, sandals and armour. We played a game called 5 lines which was fun and also had a go at using a stylus and ink to write our names in Ancient Greek. ‘That History Bloke’ was a brilliant visitor and we had a super time.

What is Squid Game?

14th October 2021a hayward

Netflix’s most recent viral show, Squid Game, has prompted alot of questions  from concerned parents and carers. The show has an age rating of 15 and has warnings about sexual scenes, suicide, threats, violence and murder.  We would strongly advise that parents do not allow underage children to watch the show.  It has also gone viral on You Tube and social media sites such as Tik Tok.  Children are able to view gory and inappropriate images from a range of platforms.  In addition, many children are enacting some of the scenarios in the playground, and are displaying inappropriate behaviour. Safer Schools have released a Safeguarding Update that highlights the main risks and concerns their experts found when researching the show. Click here to read.
