Today, year 6 began part of their art project linked to making lyres. We used newspaper, florist wire, polythene sheeting and mod roc to create the frame of a lyre – the first musical instrument according to ancient Greek mythology
As part of an art project, year 6 studied British milliners and some weird and wonderful hat designs as well as more practical ones. Pupils then thought of some designs they might like to see of a hat and finally designed prototypes of their own. It was fun to be explorative and creative with unique ideas.
This week, our art club began with some fun warm-up drawing exercises. Children enjoyed drawing with continuous line; looking at the subject only and not the paper; drawing with their non-dominant hand; and drawing in specks and shadows.
We then moved on to creating our Autumn Textile design. Children began by arranging their leaf compositions, ensuring the leaves were placed face down with the veins facing away from the fabric. They then used a wax resist technique by rubbing the shapes of leaves through the fabric with a wax crayon and then applied fabric paint to the rubbings. Our results are fantastic!
Year 3 have been making puppets in in their art lessons. We have made stick puppets and sock puppets and had a great time doing so.
In year 4 we have been studying an artist called Sokari Douglas Camp. She is a sculptor and her work is influenced by her Nigerian background. Many of her pieces are made from welding materials and reused waste materials.
Penny enjoyed completing her art work at home!
As part of our art lessons in year 6, both in the classroom and as part of remote learning, we researched hat designers and then designed and made our own prototype from paper.
In our Art lessons we have been printing with playdough. We used everyday objects to scrape patterns into playdough then we used acrylic paint to print. We were very happy with our finished pieces of work!
