Creating slingshot cars in Year 4!

23rd March 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

In Year 4 we have been creating slingshot cars. We needed to build the chassis first then we created the body of the car. It was very tricky but we all tried our best!

Year 4 visit The Word!

23rd March 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 4 had a great time at the Open Zone at The Word. We created our own websites using google sites and found out how to use google maps and google earth to locate Yellowstone Park.  We enjoyed using WeDo Lego to work on coding and we all had a lot of fun! Mrs Walls was very proud of our fantastic behaviour.

Year 4 and Year 6 get a visit from Kate from Science Buddies as part of MST week.

23rd March 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Kate from Science Buddies is a real life scientist and she came to visit us as part of MST week. We had a ‘wow’ workshop where we learned all about bath bombs and how they are made. We got the chance to make our own: we measured out alkali and acid powder ingredients in level amounts, selected scents and colours, mixed them and compacted them into tubs to take home and use ourselves of gift to a family member. We also did a quick skittles investigation where we thought about colour dispersal – it was cool to watch the colours and how they ran into each other and lost pigment on the original sweet once mixed with water. We loved this workshop.

Science council get busy organising activities for MST week.

23rd March 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Science Council helped Ms Drake to organise science activities for MST week. Years 3 and 4 representatives created a PowerPoint question round, picture round and a science word anagram sheet to be part of a fun quiz for all the classes in school to do. Years 5 and 6 Science Council members thought up a recycled outfit challenge for each class to take part in. Because there will be a class winner for the best recycled outfit, all Science Council members from year 3, 4, 5, and 6 helped to make recycled certificates for the winners, again trying to incorporate the importance of recycling into the theme. These challenges have kept the pupils busy and focused in the Spring term and they are already planning Summer term activities for the whole school.

Terrific Tree Planting

21st March 2022a hayward

Science Council met at Temple Park near Whiteleas Way with Durham Wildlife Trust where we planted over 500 trees on Thursday morning. These trees will hopefully grow into a large wooded area that will benefit our local community in the future. We did this to support the planet, help provide habitats for species and also gain from the oxygen the trees help put back into the air. We worked tirelessly: it was challenging and required a lot of physical effort. The feeling of success afterwards was rewarding and seeing our amazing Science Council work together was incredible.
Well done Science Council.

Year 4 ‘Teeth and Eating,’ science visitor in school

8th February 2022S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

Year 4 are learning about Teeth and Eating and we have had two visitors in school who have been teaching us about the different types of teeth, their jobs and how to look after our teeth. We had a turn at pretending to remove some plague from model teeth and filling the cavity with a pretend filling.

Roald Dahl Day!

30th September 2021S Admin (Biddick Hall Juniors)

We celebrated Roald Dahl Day on the 13th September (Roald Dahl’s birthday).  Many of us wore yellow as this is his favourite colour. Each class spent the day completing sessions linked to Roald Dahl.

We each donated £1 which will be given to the Roald Dahl charity, which provides specialist nurses and support for seriously ill children. Today, there are currently 82 Roald Dahl Specialist Nurses caring for over 21,000 seriously ill children across the UK.
