The children in Year 5 have been designing and programming a monitoring device to monitor the temperature of an enclosure for a chosen animal. They first researched the conditions needed for the animal to survive in their enclosure, including the minimum and maximum temperatures.
The children then programmed a BBC Micro bit to act as a temperature monitor which would alert the animal’s owner to a drop or increase in temperature. They were then challenged to make a plastic holder for the device, before finally using their 3D CAD Skills on the site ‘Tinkercad’ to make a 3D representation of their Micro bit holder. The children have definitely demonstrated their impressive design skills throughout this DT project.
